Josephine Angelini is a genius. Literally I didn't even care what the book was about, I saw her name and I wanted this book for review because I had no doubts that it would be amazing. I was correct. This book was so much more than amazing. It was flawlessly good and I'm going to get onto why that it in a moment.

The book follows Lily, this crazy sick girl who's allergic to just about everything and is in love with her only friend who is male and the biggest player in town. Anyway, cut to the chase, she gets rejected and find herself in a parallel world where she discovers she is a crucible which is kind of like a witch. Oh and theres another version of her that wants her and she essentially has to fight herself. It's sounds a bit scattered but trust me it's not, its just that so much happens in this book and I don't want to give anything away at all, because It's something you definitely need to experience without knowing anything before hand.

Now for the plot. Angelini had this flawless way of seamlessly combing modern or older classics with modern days world to weave these incredible hybrid stories that I absolutely love. It's just such a clever and unique way of doing things and Trial by Fire stands out for all the right reasons.
I guess you could say it loosely based of the crucible by Arthur Miller (A play which I so happen to Love) and it made reading this so interesting and it was because whilst the plot was leading the vague path that I sort of knew I still wasn't sure where I was going and it was absolutely brilliant. It never got confusing or complicated and bearing in mind it was a topic that could've gotten extremely confusing Angelini seemed to master if easily, building this incurable world and system with precision.
Another thing I loved about this novel, that also made it different to other 'witch' novels was the science which actually really intrigued me. Basically all the magic and supernatural powers in this were not so supernatural. All the magic they did actually used science as a basis because the magic was essentially science, hence why these witches are called crucibles. It was so clever and different and I instantly fell in love with this idea of science and magic working together and for me it made it all seem a bit real and a breather of something unique in a genera so full of the same stuff.
A further bonus is that it had so many hidden references to the Crucible that you wouldn't get had you not read the original play, however I have and did pick up on these and loved them, seeing instantly how they related down to the classic.

What can I say about Angelini's writing. As you can tell from my reviews of the Starcrossed trilogy I adore Angelini's style of writing. I find it really poetic and beautiful and quite simply, utterly gorgeous. I really feel like her writing has developed somewhat, because although I could tell it was written by Angelini the writing seemed more developed and grown, like everything that was already amazing had been fine-tuned to perfection. The perfect balance of description and action, the perfect pacing to make it flow beautifully, the precise and well times twists and turns that left you hungry for more. No this book left you burning for more.

The setting for this is really interesting actually, and I think it only helped to show off another of Angelini's skills which is that she can incredibly world build and create these stunning, beautiful and different worlds that you fall in love and struggle to leave. The setting is basically a world or dimension sitting on top of ours, where both science and magic exists, neither one without the other but magic dominates and the running of society and what powers our world is completely different yet so similar. I really did like is world and they way Angelini crafted it made it all the more spectacular. Her dreamy and whimsical descriptions saw this exquisite world crafted in my mind. The world she built actually complimented the story so well that whilst i was reading it I literally forgot the real world and escaped to, I guess we can call it 'New Salem'.

As for characters in this Angelini kept it nice and simple with only a few select characters that never really changed. I liked this for a number of reason which I will elaborate on. With this being the first in a series it didn't bombard us with too much info or characters and allowed us to understand and stay comfortable in the book, getting to know and understand the few characters we knew really well. We learnt a fair amount about each characters past and Angelini really blurred the lines between who we hated and didn't in this novel, especially with the love triangle, though it seemed to tilt more in one direction. Needless to say we knew who the main villains were and who we really hated but as i said, a fair amount it still unclear, but i have no doubt this will be cleared up and the following novels in the series as this is only book 1.

Overall I'm in love with this book. Trial by Fire is a masterpiece. the ideas are so unique and so easy to fall in love with and once your in your left with a burning desire to turn the page, and keep on reading. I and no doubts in Angelini's ability to wow and intrigue me and she has succeeded once again in this beautiful rendition of science, witches and the Crucible. The wait for the sequel is a wait too long because i genuinely can not wait to meet Lily and the gang to see where they've been led, because that was one hell of a cliff-hanger at the end and there no way I can sit back and reminisce about the book with an ending like that. I need to know what happens next.
But to conclude Angelini has impressed yet again. Trial by Fire is a sharp, clever beautiful story that will keep you up till the depths of night trying to see what happens next.

Where do I begin with this. I was anticipating this for a long time and the moment it arrived I read it in a night. This book is crammed full with every single thing you could want. Action, romance, sic-fi, dystopian. Just everything.

The plot was really interesting, because although it was dystopian it had a sic-fi crossover which was really nice. In fact sci-fi is starting to make a break in the YA market and surprisingly I'm loving it! The  story is really unique and is set in a sort of post apocalyptic world, in which aliens have taken over and there are four children with marking that save them. To sum it up it's I am number four meets the host meets divergent. Three of my favourite book so naturally I loved it.
We followed a girl named Dol [oria] and how she is ripped from the safety of the hideouts and plunged into a the governments hands. We follow her as she makes allies and enemies and learns to use her powers.
The plot is so fun. Fun is because i mean it has absolutely everything. It's such a unique idea and so perfect in every way. It satisfied all my needs, with action, tech, dystopia, romance and powers. I couldn't stop reading. Every way through the book i was intrigued and every chapter had me reading the next. Impossible to put down. Every last drop of it. It thrilled me, it made me sad, it evoked everything a book should and at the end I was lost, because an amazing book had ended I had nothing left to do.

I knew that the writing would be different, because this time it was all Stohl and no Garcia. I was not disappointed. The writing held a certain charm about it, whimsical yet hard hitting and fast. It build vivd and crisp images in your mind and scenes which played out easily. The description was so beautiful and because of the focus of the book being on emotions, the emotional description made you so connected. The dialogue was perfect and each characters really shone through.
Stohl handled action scenes really well, because sometimes authors an pace them too fast, but not once did i find me self wanting to go back or pace down. Every single page of this book had me going and drinking the novel up. 

Setting. As for setting the world is overrun and destroyed and thirteen main cities remain, governed my ambassador chosen by the aliens. The book is predominantly set in LA, or what's left of it, but in the government building, not the ram shackled down under city called the 'hole'. Though in the beginning we find ourselves in a rebellion hideout, so the speak. The locations were so perfect In every aspect, that you wanted to be there every part of the way. Just the way Stohl created this world had me intrigued and captivated.

All the characters in this book were created to perfection. I really think the focus of emotion helped us to connect to the characters and become them and although Dol was written in first person, i felt he unique power helped us to slip into the shoes of any of the characters. The charatcers were all built up extremely well, and as the book progressed we knew them better, as they came out of their shells. That's something I loved the Stohl did. She kept the characters reserved and hostile and opened them up as the book opened up. all the characters became my friends and I loved being beside them all the way till the end.

Over all this is a stunning book and a terrific addition to the YA genre.  It was the most amazing exhilarating thrilling unique book I've read for a long time! I Loved it to smithereens and I am raring for number 2.

MILA 2.0 - DEBRA DRIZA - REVIEW

Well what can I say? This is Divergent Meets The Host, both of which were books that I loved and adored so there was no choice but for me to fall in love with Mila 2.0.

Lets start with Mila 2.0 Origins, the Fire. This is the short free prequel to Mila 2.0 that you can pick up from the Amazon Kindle store, so before I read Mila 2.0 I decided to give The Fire a go. It blew me away. It jumps right in with a punchy action filled scene that instantly leaves you breathless and wanting more. You instantly feel a connection to character and the use of sympathy make you want to read on. The Fire is just essentially a taster sample to get you to buy Mila 2.0, but you should buy Mila 2.0 anyway. It's a killer novel.

Mila 2.0 is a sci fi/Ya book which is really nice because there's a fine line between Dystopian and Sci-fi and most YA book around this genre seem to fall into the Dystopia genre. So the fact this was Sci-fi was really nice and different! I mean I'm not usually keen on Sci-Fi but Mila 2.0 seemed interesting enough and I am so glad I read this book. It will definitely stand out for a while.

The Book follows, Mila, a girl android, as she discovers who she is and why she is on the run. It then follows her as she falls in love and gets captured. I know what you're thinking? Helpless girl android gets saved by brooding boy? Wrong! Surprisingly enough the boy doesn't actually play much of  a part in this which was really different yet so nice. The blurb led me to believe that the boy would play a main part in the story, as most boys do in YA fiction, but this was a breath of fresh air it was solely based on the story of Mila being an Android rather than the whole difficult love situation with the girl trying to explain what she is etc.

The story is really action packed and I loved it. It is a tad slow starting and as I progressed I wondered if a couple of the early scenes were necessary but putting that aside there wasn't a fault. A flawless novel. This book utterly thrilled me. The story was extremely well crafted and simple to understand. Thats one thing you have to be really careful of when writing Sci-Fi; how easy your concept is to understand and explain but Driza made this so easy to understand the science and technology. Also the story flowed really nicely too. It was smooth and kink free and the events all fitted together nicely.

The writing was a joy. I think the POV of writing from a machine is really unique, however human they may be, and the fact that Driza explained technological functions in first person was a really interesting way to write. The writing itself was gorgeous. Just the right amount of dialogue balanced with the perfect amount of description. And the action scenes were masterfully crafted too. The pace wasn't too quick on them and they were described in detail, so vividly they played out in your mind like a TV.

The characters. The nice thing I liked about this is that it wasn't confusing. Driza kept the characters to a minimum with about 5 main ones and it worked perfectly. They were built in your mind so well and because there was so much time to spend on each one they became your friends. (apart from the evil ones.) You felt like you knew them and they really evoked emotion in all the right places.

Overall I think this a Masterfully Crafted Novel. It will enthral anyone for hours and thrill you until your heart cant pump any faster and most definitely, will leave you wanting more.

172 HOURS ON THE MOON - JOHN HARSTAD - REVIEW

I hate this guy yet love him. Harstad has written such an epic, thrilling novel that will keep you groping onto the book until the end. IT was such a totally un-put-downable novel and it would have gotten an A+ from me had it not had such a annoying ending. I guess though that's always what makes a book stand out, or at least for me. Having the the ending that no-one expects. No happy ever after, and sad, cruel ending that you hate so much you feel like something in you has broken. This so far has only happened with two novels. Candor, and 172 hours on the moon.


The book was just such an intense roller coaster of craziness. The plot must have been outlined in detail and pondered over for hours, if not days. The research was also so clever. It wasn't all just made up, Harstad took real evidence and twisted to suit the fantastic sic-fi novel. 


The writing is just perfect. It ran at the fast pace and give you a twist every now and then. The twists and turn in this book were just so clever and shocked you so much. The writing was so vivd, though, swell. It made you feel like you were really there, in the book watching the whole thing play out in your head like a movie. 


The characters, well you just got so close to them. They felt so real, like they were friends and I think that was a really good think because when each of them was then killed off it hurt you as well as every one else. It really affected you and made you feel so bad for them. My favourite charter would have to be Mia, because after the whole novel she sticks out because of all the tragedies, hers sticks out...


Overall it was a fantastic book, and I absolutely loved to pieces, just as much as I hate the ending.

I have been pondering over writing this review for a couple of days now because I want
to get it so perfect. I want express how amazing I though this book was and how much I
loved it without putting too much repetition or stuff like that in this revieww, so I found a
word to describe this book: Phenomenal. It’s one of the many words you could describe
this marvellous, stupendously, fantastic book with.

Now you see this book blew of my feet. This is an action packed, fast paced thriller filled
with mystery and lore. It’s an amazing novel and for a 500 page book an incredibly fast
read, and honestly I read it in two days, because I couldn’t stop. I even stayed up until
12 O’clock at night reading it.

No this book has way to much in it to place brief of what happened, but it has a lot of
time travel and it is set in the future a lot. I suppose a good way to put it is that it had
everything you want in a book and every good quality an epic novel should have. This
novel was absolutely stunning!

Now from the first chapter I was in the book. I have to admit, it was a bit slow getting
into it but from about chapter five I was very much so sucked into the book and all its
amazingness. The description is all so vivid and perfect, making every part so real and
so there.

Now this book was definitely a step away from my usual Genre of book, but I am so
glad I had the opportunity to read this because I loved it so much, and to miss this book
is to miss a super book of brilliant possibilities.

Now the plot... well it was one heck of a plot, and it takes a while to get your head
around, because there is quite a bit of time travel involved. There is so much crammed
into this book. It has romance, action, lies, mystery, time travel, and it also has an
aspect of every genre on the market including dystopian, sci-fi, religious, fantasy and
lore.

The writing was really nice to read actually. When I first started to read it, I had some
trouble adjusting to the style of writing, but I soon found that it was incredibly enjoyable,
from the smooth prose and description to the quirky, cuss filled dialogue. I admit the
dialogue was actually very fun.

Now this is a very complex book and can get quite complicated because there are so
many numbers involved, and so much time travel, but don’t let that put you off because
once you get your head around it, it’s one hell of a thrill ride. In two words it would have
to be: Bloody Brilliant!

The characters are all so well built up and so strong in sense of emotion, that you feel
so close to them. What I’m trying to say is that they get so well built in your mind they
become, in reality, your friends. Their foundations are all strong and there a fair few
surprises with the characters, some obvious and some not. As for my favourites, they
would have to be Josef Klein, and Alison Bond. Klein comes across so

bad and dominion-ic and at heart he’s still the goody, and Alison for the fact she
is such an amazing person.

I suppose in a way, at the end it’s really Heart-warming, and it has such a lovely ending
it makes it worth the whole book. It is a terribly beautiful story, and I can tell you now
that the Sequence of number has dictated that I absolutely, irrevocably, unconditionally
love this book.

Q&A with MICHAEL GRANT

What is “Go BZRK”? Is this a book or some kind of interactive story?

Both. The book comes out this winter, but the interactive part starts now.  One leads up to the other, but they're part of a complete package.

Why “transmedia”?

There are different approaches to transmedia.  Most people take a single story and reproduce it on various platforms.  My philosophy has been to make each element - ARG, app, web, book - a thing unto itself, each revealing some aspect of the world of BZRK.  I've been fascinated with this is as a new way to tell stories.  The book remains central, but now I can reach beyond the book and create a much more complete world.  I can tell stories that enhance the book, and stories that parallel the book, and stories that are offshoots of backstory.  I guess the answer to "why" is "because it's fun."

Is this the future of publishing?

I began a few years ago reaching out to publishers and saying we collectively needed to understand that the old models were dead or dying.  I want publishing to survive, and of course I'd like my own career to thrive.  So Egmont Publishing and my partners and I certainly hope this is a part of the future of publishing. 

How long is this running? Is this part of a larger picture?

We'll be running this in several chunks between now and the book release this winter. Because these things have a hard start/stop point, August is a ramp-up phase. There'll be a lot of content coming out, but the experience really gets underway at the end of the month… just in time to distract the kids from their schoolwork.

What if someone wants to follow the story but doesn’t want to participate?

You don't have to do anything.  You can do one thing and not another.  But the deeper you plunge the wetter you get.  I think every part of this is fun, I think people will enjoy the ARG, the app, the site and the books.

Adults like to flatter themselves that kids won't get, won't understand, won't be able to handle, more intense, more complex stories. That's nonsense.  It's the adults who are easy to creep out or scare.  Say the word "biopsy" in a room full of adults. Or "audit."  See?  Easy to scare.  Kids are a tougher audience because kids think they're immortal.

This book is so epic! I honestly love Pittacus Lore so much yet I hate him for leaving the book on such a cliff-hanger, because now I have to wait for him to write another book! So in other words, the men behind Pittacus are amazing authors. This book was everything I wanted! After enjoying I am Number Four so much I was eager to get my hands on this and I loved it. It was filled with action, aliens, legacies (magic... sort of), and a love pentagon? It was most definitely and amazingly epic thriller.

This book also follows Seven. It’s set in the point of view of Seven as well as Four, who we know as John Smith, and Seven who is introduced as Marina. Basically Seven is having a fight for survival and to live on to her destiny and learn her legacies whilst her half-nun Cepan is all holy and doesn’t care, whilst Four, Six and Sam, have love problems, make it across the news, destroy the FBI, run halfway across the country and awaken the Evil Mogadorian leader for war. Oh, yeah and {SPOILER} the other ship that came to earth from Lorien, is proven to have number Ten on it (who we also meet, along with Nine) and possibly others.

The book starts of in Seven’s point of view, and she lives in Spain. It’s quite an unexpected way to start the book as I was expecting to start off in some action scene with Six, Four and Sam, but that’s not to say I didn’t like the opening. I can say it had me gripped. The book uses a lot of description, and I liked it, a lot. I always love books with more description; I suppose it just paints a clearer picture in my mind. Pittacus Lore has succeeded in writing a second fantastic novel to the series.

The writing is very different and very set to the person’s point of view. Like when it was from Seven’s point of view the writing was very soft and kind whereas Four’s was very edgy and down with the dogs. I mean overall the writing was Excellent and I think it was and is the best style to use for the dazzlingly unique book.

Right... in this book we are introduced to a lot of new characters so I’m going to Profiles:

Seven: She can heal anything; she can see in the dark, can breathe underwater and has telekinesis.

Nine: Has advanced speed and senses and can use lots of alien stuff.

Ten: Can change shape to different ages.

I think they are all so unique and well built characters but as for my favourite well it has to be... Six. I honestly think Six is so awesome. She can fight, she has amazing Legacies and she is pretty hot! All the characters are well defined though and you feel so close to all of them except for the Mogadorians. You just want to rip their cold hearts out, boil them into soup and feed it to mentally challenged Dung beetles.

The book is a new type of Sci-fi I would say. Something different and I think it is has something for everyone of every Genre. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had me reeling from the start, with every twist and turn, the mystery and suspense, the love and hate and the intergalactic aliens. Most definitely five starts a million times, and god... I need the next book!
