Passion - Lauren Kate - Review

Book: Passion
Author: Lauren Kate
publisher: Doubleday
ISBN: 9780385618083
Rating: A+

This is the third book in the incredible "Fallen" series. Before Luce and Daniel met at Sword & Cross, before they fought the Immortals, they had already lived many lives. And so Luce, desperate to unlock the curse that condemns their love, must revisit her past incarnations in order to understand her fate. Each century, each life, holds a different clue. But Daniel is chasing her throughout the centuries before she has a chance to rewrite history. How many deaths can one true love endure? And can Luce and Daniel unlock their past in order to change their future?

Lauren Kate is one fantastic author. Is it just me or do her books just get better and better as she writes them. So what I’m trying to say is that this book swept me of my feet. I suppose it could be called a sprequel. It’s a mix between a Prequel and a Sequel, and it picks up exactly where torment left off, although I personally think it has the possibility to be a standalone book. It basically follows Luce, travelling through announcers, piecing together her past, trying to break the curse and boy it is amazing.

I don’t get how she does it, but Lauren Kate has such a way of describing things. It’s so crisp and clear and I just loved it. I remember reading the first page and thinking WOW! The book follows Luce travelling through her past lives, trying to figure how to break the curse, but it also follows Daniel chasing after her, trying to find her. There were quite a few new characters in this book that we were introduced to and they were very interesting. Bill is a very interesting one, as Lauren Kate makes him feel very close to you. You regard Bill as a friend and trust him but at the end BAM. Bill is Satan. Bad Guy! OMG, although for this book it should be OMA (Oh my Angels, not Oh my God).

My favourite character would have to be Daniel. I suppose it’s because we get to know him a lot better in this book. In the others, sure he’s the love interest and all, but he’s pushed aside and Luce is centre of attention, but in this one we really get to know him. We get a feel for what he’s going through and what he has been for the past thousand years. Also in this book his personality changes. It’s very much desperate in this one, and also slightly more honest. I think that Luce has also changed in this one. She is much more confident with herself and uses the magic more.

This book wasn’t like the others in the sense it had way more action. The other books were ‘Build up books’ where they built up to the climax, generally a fight, but this had no build up because it had pure action in every single chapter, and it kept me going. It kept me thrilled and engaged the whole time.

The plot is very well thought out, and I have to say I love books where the country changes a lot. I love all the description of different countries and their many cultures, and how they are all portrayed so uniquely and differently. The description for all the different countries was so amazing I think people could tick them of their travel list. I have to admit my favourite place was Prussia.

My favorite scene would have to be either the scene where Bill reveals himself as the bad guy or the scene where Daniel throws himself of the cliff. I think the scene where Daniel tries to kill himself is a really emotion filled scene, and it’s really made me feel sorry for Daniel.

The writing was beautiful. This book was sent from the heavens above. The way Lauren Kate writes is so beautiful, and so... so perfect I just loved it. I have to admit I whizzed through the book. It was an awesome joyride, and now it is official that I want a pet announcer. The writing didn’t drag at all. It was all very balanced with dialogue and description and like I said... perfect.

This is a beautiful story burning with Passion. With love found from heaven and a curse sent from hell this will be the most magical book of the year.

Interview - Josephine Angelini

Okay, so I had my first ever Interview with Josephine Angelini and as any of you who have read Starcrossed know, she is AMAZING! Anyway, Just though I share the Interview with you.

I case you hadn't figure, this Is Josephine Angelini! So pretty isn't she!

1 - Where did you inspiration come from?

It was actually a very lucky accident. I saw a copy of Romeo and Juliet sitting next to The
Iliad on my bookshelf, and it hit me. What if I took Homer’s amazing characters and set it up so that if two teenagers fell in love they would start a war? Then I took the opening line of Romeo and Juliet, which begins: “Two Households…”

And I started writing

2 - How much research did you do?

I didn’t have to do too much, actually. I studied Classical Theatre in college, so I was already familiar with the material. When I sat down to start outlining the plot for Starcrossed, I realized that I only had to look up a few facts here and there, but mostly just to double check. I was surprised—I must have been paying better attention in class than I thought!

3 - If you could be a demigod, which house would you belong to?

I would like to start my own House-- The House of Dionysus! We’d go to the theatre all day
and dance all night! I wouldn’t really have any superpowers, but I bet I’d have a lot of fun.
J

4 - Is Helen or any of the other characters based on you or anyone you know?

All of my characters are based on bits and pieces of me, my friends, people I’ve met over
the years, but then they change. I start with what I know, and then as I work, each character grows and changes to become someone unique that works inside my story.

5 - How long did it take you write the book?

Starcrossed took me a month to outline, eight months to write, and then forever to edit!
Writing really is about rewriting, polishing, and constantly tweaking until the story is
seamless. That’s where the real work is.

6 - To be honest you are one the best authors I’ve read this year so are there any other books in the works (Apart from Starcrossed 2# and 3#)?

Thank you so much for that compliment! I’m very flattered. Right now I’ve finished the
second book in the trilogy—it’s called Dreamless, and I’m starting work or book 3. I have
an idea for another supernatural YA series, but that will have to wait. Right now my brain is thoroughly occupied.

7 - Will there be a movie?

There’s been a lot of interest in making a movie, but I’m not thinking about selling the rights at the moment. Maybe someday—but right now I want to focus on the books.

8 - Which is your favourite of the ‘Boys’?

Lucas! They’re all special to me, but Lucas really is “my guy”.

I'm also doing a STARCROSSED GIVEAWAY! There's a brilliant 3 COPIES to get your hands on so just fill out the form below or go to this address: http://excellentreads.blogspot.com/2011/06/starcrossed-giveaway.html
