GIRL OF NIGHTMARES - UK VS US COVER + COVER OF THE WEEK - FEBRUARY - WEEK 3

So recently my Cover of the Week has been tied in with other things such as cover reveals, but this cover is so stunning I'm going to tie it in with a Uk vs US cover.

UK------US

Right so lets get started. When Anna dressed in blood was released there was no questioning it. The UK cover won, but this time round I really stuck. Obviously the main image is the same but the way they have been done are completely different. So lets take the covers apart one bit at a time. The tagline. The UK has the tagline Spellbinding and romantic, whereas the american just has spellbinding. I find that the single word quote works for me better. With the US tagline I like how it is smaller and doesn't stand out too much but I think it's too low down, whereas the UK tagline is higher up. So overall I think the US tagline just wins. Author title. Right well this is draw, because although the UK author title is a tad big for my preference the us one has patterns that are rather distracting. Main title. Well they're the same, so it comes down to the image and colours. Putting all of this aside, looking at both the covers you cant help but think, my god they're beautiful, but back to business. I don't know, I think the idea of having some parts red and some parts grayscale on the uk cover is very clever but something about it seems off to me. Maybe it the fact that her lower skin has colour but her upper doesn't?  And also the glow around her hair on the UK seems a little too pretty fairytale for a horror. And then the US. Migod. The whole red effect creates a completely magical feel. A very fairytale feel, but the kind of this-is-about-a-blood-thirsty-i'm-gonna-kill-you-ghost fairytale. And the red to me just screams blood. This is mega hard for me cause they are both beautiful and theres not to much difference but I think US has to win.

Cover of the week:
Well pretty much says it above.

Reckless - Cornelia Funke - UK v US Cover

UK                                                                                                               US/GERMAN

Seeing as I have just read this and it is Reckless Day, I thought I'd compare covers.

I'm not sure with these two, as they are both amazing covers. The UK Portrays the golden goyle eye better, but the US portrays the jade skin better. For me this is a toughie so it all comes down to the fonts. The UK title font wins me over straight away, including the fact that it is foil. But then I love the frame around the US. For mr it's a draw but if I had to pick I would pick the UK. When I met cornelia she said to her they draw but is she had to pick she would pick US.

The Dark Divine - Bree Desapin - UK v US Cover

..........UK........................................................................................US
The choice is easy for me. US wins. Fonts and placing are so much better. I luurved the UK when I saw it in Waterstones but then I typed it in on GoOgLe and I saw the US cover and just like it more. It had more of the edgy dark romance feel to it. The gothic creepy style with the romatic italicised part. Also the Pen Name font and placing is better on the US.

The piture in its self I <3 I love the feet and the flowy purple material. It's really dark but passionate. Overall the US wins for me hands down today but comment. Which do you prefer.

The Passage - Justin Cronin - UK v US Cover

..........UK........................................................................................US

Completely different covers. UK: Amazing, gloomy, mysterious, dark, edgy. US:
"Mommy can I go on the conputer" says the three year old sitting by his mac.
"Sure thing sweety pie"
"Thanks mommy" He types into google 'Pretty Woods'. He finds a picture of Bland trees that are blue with a bit of yellow in the middle and thinks 'Ooooh thats pretty' but really its not. After all he's just a kid. He wants to put some writing on but he's young so he cant make it look good. He just mashes on the words THE PASSAGE A NOVEL JUSTIN CRONIN. It looks very bad but he thinks its good. Also the cover has no relevance to what it's suposed to be about.

The UK cover has that sort of edgy dark feel to it. The fact that it is shiny adds the darkness because at night, curtains closed lying in bed lamp on you look at the bookshelf and you see this shiny reflective girl with mourning dark eyes. Creepy. This is what I mean by SHINY:

See what I mean. TOTALLY creepy. It's generally better and suits the book more whereas the US looks like a toddlers has found a picture and stuck some lousy writing on you see. I hate the US cover and I would never pick it up in a shop and if I knew it was an amazing (like I did before I managed to get my hands ona signed copy) I would have got the UK covered one from an online store. I really just think the US cover is bad apart from the 'A NOVEL' bit. I love the way that although the UK cover is CREEEEEEPY it has the white writing saying 'Something is coming' It's awesome.

Overall I luuurv the UK cover the Best. :) Well done ORION books you have created a rockin' cover.

The Immortals #1 - Evermore - Alyson Noel - UK v US Cover

..........UK........................................................................................US
Very similar cover and a very hard choice for these cover. Evermore is a major Twilight wannabe but it just doesn't live up to the magickal and mysterious mind of meyer. (alitteration)

They are both so intruiging with the purple girl and a tiny hint of colour from the flower along with the silver foiled title. I love the UK title with the larger parts of the V, R, and O but I love the lower case glow on the US. I prefer the position of the quote THE IMMORTALS better on the UK and love the part where it says HE SAID HE'D NEVER LET HER GO but the US auhtor title doesn't have a capital letter which I luuurv. I dont like the pink writing on the US but comment what you think.

Overall I think the UK wins but would be perfect if everything stayed the same on UK but had the US title. But yeas UK are the winners.

The House of Night #1 - Marked - PC & Kristin Cast - UK v US Cover

..........UK.......................................................................................US
On these covers they are pretty much the same. One things I luuuuurv about the house of night covers are the clear glossy amazing intricate patterns. For Marked they are the same but I have to say I prefer the UK cover myself.

Seeing as the covers are the same it is tiny details which make the UK cover better. For starters I like the UK font much more. It fits the gothic theme more and it looks like it was marked on with ink. One think I love about both covers is the way it's all black and gothic with a SPLASH of colour. The UK author font works for me along with the better positioning of the moon. The best bit of the UK cover thought is how the UK girls eye has been manipulated pink. It really adds colour and a smidge charecter and the PICK ME UP effect. Also on the UK cover it shows more of the girl and the picture carries on, on the spine. The only thing that lets the UK cover down is that I like the placing of the A HOUSE OF NIGHT NOVEL better on the US.

Love the intricate pattern as usual but this time UK win. Just for the litle extra deatils that seduce me and the US one, well as Zoey would say... Bullpoopie. Just kidding! It is good, just not as good as the UK cover. The main thing that really makes me love the UK more than anything else is the eye. I just love it that shade of pink. But yeas UK wins. :)

The Morganville vampires #1 - Glass Houses - Rachel Cain - UK v US cover

.............UK........................................................................................US

I like them both but I have to admit I prefer the US cover. Before I had seen the US cover I adored the UK one but the US blew me away. Firstly the patterns on the UK are nice but take up a lot of space along with the LARGE title so everything has been very squashed up. Also the half vampire face thing has already been done and the colours are just very dark and dingy. What I do like though is the blood splatters. I think it adds a lot of charecter. The US is vibrant, spaced out, better fonts, more eycatching and better colours. The fonts are much better and the blue stands out! Also I love the way they put the house there glowing. The only thing that lets the US cover down is from neck upwards (including spiky the necklace) I dont like the model with the spikes, piercing etc.

Overall I have to go with the US just for being better as an alrounded cover. :)
